A 17-year-old girl’s death by suicide on Thursday at the Oberoi Square complex in Goregaon East, Mumbai, has raised serious concerns. This marks the fourth such incident within the complex in the past six months, prompting an investigation by the Aarey police, who have filed an accidental death report. No suicide note was recovered.
Police sources indicate the girl was battling depression and was receiving medical treatment. She resided on the 23rd floor of the Oberoi building, C Wing, and was a Class 11 student. Her father was employed in the construction field.
The tragic event unfolded on Thursday afternoon when the girl was studying in her bedroom, while her mother and grandparents were at home. Her father was away at work. At approximately 3:30 p.m., she allegedly jumped from her bedroom window. Her family revealed that she had been suffering from depression for several years and was receiving care at Ambani Hospital.
The Oberoi complex is now under scrutiny because of the increasing number of suicides among its residents. Four separate suicide cases have been reported in the complex in the last six months.
Earlier, 22-year-old Anant Dwivedi allegedly died by suicide after falling from the 45th floor of the Oberoi E-Square building. A 17-year-old schoolgirl also allegedly jumped to her death from the 45th floor of the same complex on May 28, 2025.
