As the Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro prepares for its launch, connecting RV Road with Bommasandra via Electronic City, the Karnataka government is underscoring the joint ownership of the project. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the service on August 10, state leaders are reminding the public that the Namma Metro is a collaborative venture between the central and state governments. The inauguration event will be held at IIM Bengaluru, followed by a metro ride with prominent state officials, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The Deputy Chief Minister, responsible for Bengaluru’s development, clarified that both the state and central governments have invested in the metro project. He stated that the state government requested the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Yellow Line. According to Shivakumar, the focus remains on public service rather than who receives credit. The Yellow Line, which spans 19.15 km and features 16 stations, was constructed at a cost of Rs 7,610 crore. The government plans to request funds from the Prime Minister for land acquisition related to the double-decker project. Shivakumar also called for support from Members of Parliament for the extension of the metro network. Addressing project delays, he emphasized the importance of safety, with the Yellow Line receiving clearance from the Commissionerate of Railway Safety on July 31. Currently, trains will operate at 25-minute intervals, with plans to increase the frequency to 10 minutes when additional train sets are available. The Deputy Chief Minister expressed the state government’s appreciation for all those involved in the Yellow Line project.
