The Border Security Force (BSF) is maintaining an exceptionally high level of vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) as the nation prepares for Diwali. Officials have articulated a clear priority: ‘National security is our Diwali,’ underscoring their commitment to safeguarding the country above all else.
This intensified alert status is a direct consequence of intelligence forecasts predicting an increase in threats from Pakistan-based terrorist groups, including the use of drones and attempts at border infiltration. To mitigate these risks, critical areas such as the Gulmarg sector in Baramulla have been declared ‘No Drone Fly Zones.’ The security apparatus is particularly concerned about drones being weaponized or used for reconnaissance during the festival.
Furthermore, security forces anticipate a concerted push for infiltration before the onset of winter, when snow typically blocks crucial mountain passes. In response, the BSF has deployed advanced anti-drone systems and enhanced its surveillance network with integrated technologies. This includes sophisticated cameras, sensors, alarms, and night-vision devices. The deployment of smart fencing, robotic surveillance, and continuous patrolling reinforces the security perimeter. Specialized ambush teams are strategically positioned in infiltration-prone regions to counter any cross-border movements.
Recent successes, such as thwarting multiple infiltration attempts and neutralizing terrorists in the Kupwara sector, highlight the ongoing operational readiness and inter-agency cooperation.
Despite the rigorous demands of their duty, BSF personnel are fostering a sense of community and celebration on the front lines. They are observing Diwali rituals and sharing moments of joy, demonstrating their unwavering resolve and the deep sense of patriotism that fuels their commitment to national security.
