
The Samajwadi Party has cancelled all forthcoming functions in response to the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Akhilesh Yadav, the party leader, announced the postponement as a gesture of respect for the victims. The SP will suspend all activities for three days. Echoing this sentiment, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has also called off his engagements for Friday. The flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was carrying 242 people, including crew, when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft impacted a doctors’ hostel in the Meghani Nagar area. The Goa government has declared a day of state mourning. The CRPF and the Army are actively involved in rescue and relief efforts. Former Gujarat CM, Vijay Rupani, was also on the flight, and President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her grief over his demise, recognizing his service. Vijay Rupani’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister spanned from 2016 to 2021, and he also served as the BJP’s in-charge for Punjab. The flight was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. According to ATC, the aircraft took off from Runway 23 at 1339 IST (0809 UTC).
