Heavy traffic congestion gripped Delhi on Friday, with Teen Murti Marg emerging as a major bottleneck amidst the escalating Diwali shopping and travel frenzy. This latest disruption occurred shortly after similar traffic jams were observed on Tolstoy Road and near the Greater Noida Authority.
The Diwali festival, a period of intense activity and travel across India, consistently results in significant traffic challenges, especially within large cities like Delhi. The increased volume of vehicles on the road, driven by family visits and shopping excursions, inevitably leads to prolonged travel times and a frustrating commuting experience.
In response to the mounting traffic issues, authorities have intensified their management efforts. A substantial deployment of traffic personnel is ensuring a visible presence on the roads, complemented by the implementation of specialized traffic rules. Officials have emphasized the deployment of maximum staff and the immediate issuance of penalties for violations to deter unruly driving. Patrols are actively removing obstructions caused by parked vehicles. Moreover, detailed traffic plans have been developed for key commercial hubs like Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, and Connaught Place to optimize traffic flow in these high-demand areas.
To further alleviate pressure, the city has bolstered its parking capacity. Concurrently, a heightened focus is being placed on road safety during this festive period. Special campaigns targeting drunk driving are in full swing, with dedicated teams utilizing alcohol detection equipment to identify and prosecute offenders, particularly during nighttime hours.
Social media reflects the widespread impact of the traffic jams. Many users shared anecdotes of their struggles, with some resorting to alternative transport like the metro to avoid being stranded. The frustration over wasted time and fuel was palpable, with some netizens pointing to issues like toll collection points as contributing factors to the extensive delays.
