India has expressed its disagreement with the European Union’s recent imposition of sanctions, reinforcing its policy of not supporting unilateral measures. A spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed India’s adherence to its legal obligations and its rejection of the EU sanctions. The spokesperson highlighted the government’s dedication to ensuring energy security for its citizens, underlining the necessity of equitable treatment, especially in the energy sector. These comments mirror the Ministry’s response to earlier comments from NATO, which had discussed potential secondary sanctions on countries trading in Russian oil. India’s approach is guided by market availability and the current global environment, with a specific warning against double standards. The NATO Secretary General had earlier encouraged India, China, and Brazil to reconsider their oil purchases from Russia, hinting at possible repercussions.
