The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing a 380 km long Greenfield Expressway in Uttar Pradesh under the Green Highways Policy. The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway will integrate Noida, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur, thereby strengthening the road network in the state. The project is expected to cut the travel time between these two prominent industrial cities to approximately five hours upon completion.
The expressway will cover a distance of 380 km and will pass through nine districts. The initial design is for a four-lane road, with future provisions for expansion to six lanes, depending on traffic growth. The project is being developed with environmental considerations and is planned to be finished by 2026.
The route will connect Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Unnao and Kanpur.
There are plans by the NHAI to extend this expressway to Jewar Airport in Noida, which would further improve regional connectivity. The southern end will connect to the 62.7 km long Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway, and the northern end will connect to National Highway 9. The expressway will reduce travel time from Ghaziabad to Kanpur by around three hours.
This project will not only promote regional trade but also reduce the strain on existing highways. The modern route connecting Noida, Ghaziabad and Kanpur will be advantageous for local businesses, transport companies and regular commuters. It will also contribute to the overall social and economic development of the state.
