In a significant development, the central government has named Madhav Khurana, a senior advocate, as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for the Red Fort car blast case. This appointment, effective for three years, will see Khurana spearheading the prosecution on behalf of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The legal proceedings will take place at the NIA special court and the Delhi High Court. The blast, a high-intensity explosion in a car near the Red Fort on November 10, tragically resulted in 15 fatalities and multiple injuries. The government has strongly condemned the act, labeling it a terrorist incident and emphasizing the need for swift justice. The NIA’s investigation has led to the arrest of seven accused, including the suspected bomber, who was reportedly a university professor from Jammu and Kashmir. The agency continues to gather evidence, including scrutinizing a seized vehicle and recording statements from over 70 witnesses.
