In a significant stride towards dismantling the network behind the Red Fort car bombing, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken into custody Amir Rashid Ali, a Kashmiri man accused of aiding the suicide bomber. The arrest, confirmed on Sunday, is a crucial development in the probe of the deadly November 10th incident that claimed 10 lives and injured 32 people.
Authorities report that the vehicle used in the suicide attack, a Hyundai i20, was registered under Ali’s name. His apprehension occurred in Delhi following a rigorous search operation by NIA teams. Investigators believe Ali acted as a key facilitator for the bomber, Umar Un Nabi.
Amir Rashid Ali, hailing from Samboora in Pampore, is alleged to have been in direct communication with Nabi, the suicide attacker. His role reportedly involved arranging the car that was transformed into a devastating IED. The NIA has now solidified the bomber’s identity through forensic confirmation, identifying him as Umar Un Nabi, a former Assistant Professor from Pulwama with ties to Al Falah University in Faridabad.
The investigation has also led to the seizure of an additional vehicle suspected to be connected to Nabi, which is currently undergoing forensic scrutiny. The NIA has been systematically gathering evidence, having recorded statements from 73 witnesses, including numerous survivors of the blast.
The agency is maintaining a coordinated approach, collaborating with multiple law enforcement bodies, including the Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh Police forces, to ensure a thorough investigation and bring all involved parties to justice for the Red Fort terrorist attack.
