Indian Railways is taking action to enhance safety measures on its non-AC trains in Mumbai following a fatal incident involving overcrowded local trains. The railway authority has decided to redesign the existing fleet to include auto-closing doors and improve ventilation. This initiative aims to prevent similar tragedies and increase passenger safety. The new trains will be equipped with features such as doors with louvres and roof-mounted ventilation systems to ensure adequate airflow. The project is expected to be completed by November 2025, with services commencing in January 2026 after proper testing and certification. The redesigned trains will also incorporate vestibules to allow passengers to move between coaches, reducing congestion.
