Police in Odisha are investigating a fatal delivery at a nursing home in Ganjam district, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her newborn. The nursing home’s proprietor, Mangulu Charan Pradhan, was arrested for allegedly conducting the delivery without proper medical qualifications. The delivery, which took place on May 11, involved Pradhan and two ANMs. The incident occurred in the absence of a registered medical practitioner. The arrest followed a complaint from Babu Nayak, the deceased woman’s husband. Two ANMs, Madhusmita Pattanayak and Pramodini Gamango, were previously arrested for their alleged involvement. The nursing home had reportedly assured the family of its capacity to provide a safe delivery, leading to the admission of Roji Nayak, who was in labor.
