The heroic actions of two Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers, Sub-Inspector Mohd Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham, during Operation Sindoor have been recognized with posthumous Vir Chakra awards. Their bravery against a coordinated Pakistani assault at the Kharkola Border Outpost in Jammu on May 10 stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment.
Operation Sindoor was initiated as a firm response to the April 22 terror attack. During the operation, the Kharkola BOP faced intense mortar fire and drone attacks. Witnessing the grave danger, SI Imteyaj, despite sustaining life-threatening injuries from a mortar explosion, rallied his team. His last words, “Jawano, aaj khatam kar do inko,” resonated with the spirit of defiance and courage, motivating his unit to fight with renewed ferocity.
Constable Chingakham, similarly wounded in the mortar attack, refused to be evacuated. He prioritized his duty and his comrades, continuing to engage the enemy until his heroic last breath. The Vir Chakra, awarded for their exceptional valor, acknowledges their critical role in neutralizing enemy drones and repelling the attack, even in the face of overwhelming odds and personal injury. Their sacrifice underscores the high price of security at the nation’s borders.
