Travelers faced significant disruptions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday as a technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system led to the delay of more than 100 flights. The issue, stemming from problems with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) and the Auto Track System (AMS), has forced air traffic controllers to revert to manual flight plan generation. This manual process is inherently time-consuming, resulting in substantial delays for both departures and arrivals. The airport, which is one of the busiest in India with over 1,500 daily flight movements, is struggling to maintain its schedule. Airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, have issued advisories to passengers, alerting them to the ongoing delays and advising them to check for the latest flight updates. The ATC system failure is not only affecting Delhi but also causing ripple effects in flight operations across various northern regions. Passengers are strongly recommended to monitor their flight status continuously through their respective airline channels to manage their travel plans effectively.
