Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is making strides in improving its power infrastructure. The UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has reported a notable decrease in transformer damage, a clear indication of the effectiveness of its monitoring, strategic interventions, and accountability measures. The data reflects a robust power distribution system and improved repair and maintenance protocols.
Data from April-May 2025–26 showcases the effectiveness of these measures. The number of power transformers damaged in this period was only 12, a sharp decline from 42 in 2024–25, 61 in 2023–24, and 90 in 2022–23—an 87% drop in three years. General transformer damage also experienced a significant decline, falling from 7,322 in April-May 2022–23 to 2,613 in the corresponding period of 2025–26, representing a decrease of over 64%.
The improvements are due to several strategic interventions. These include fitting power transformers with bell protection systems and distribution transformers with tailless and fuse units. Mechanical fault tracking systems and continuous monitoring are now in place. Disciplinary actions against responsible officers have ensured accountability. Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal’s leadership is instrumental in executing a zero-tolerance policy, bringing about tangible improvements and reinforcing the government’s commitment to an uninterrupted 24/7 power supply.
