A Special Court has once again denied bail to Prajwal Revanna, the former MP and suspended JD(S) leader, in the rape case involving a housemaid. The rejection marks the second time the court has denied his plea. Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat presided over the trial. Revanna initially sought bail from the trial court, but was unsuccessful. He then appealed to the High Court, citing delays, but was instructed to return to the trial court first.
Revanna is the prime accused in four cases, with FIRs registered against him last year. Investigations revealed the existence of approximately 2,900 video clips depicting sexual assault, which were circulated online.
The initial complaint was filed by a domestic help who worked at Revanna’s family’s farmhouse, who stated that Revanna raped her repeatedly and threatened to make videos public if she spoke. These incidents are alleged to have started in 2021. The trial court has levied serious charges against Revanna, including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and the illegal sharing of private videos. The verdict, previously reserved on July 18, is now scheduled to be delivered on July 30.
