A new report, the NARI 2025, sheds light on the safety concerns of women in urban India. The research, which included a survey of 12,770 women from 31 states, found that nearly 40% of respondents felt unsafe in urban settings. The survey also uncovered that approximately 7% of women aged 18 to 24 faced harassment in 2024. The report specifically noted that Delhi and Kolkata are among the least safe cities, whereas Mumbai and several other cities were considered safer environments. The types of harassment included staring, catcalling, and unwanted touching. The report linked feelings of unsafety to issues such as insufficient infrastructure, poor lighting, and ineffective public transportation. The study also pointed out that a low percentage of women reported their experiences to authorities, and a significant number were unaware of the presence of POSH policies in their workplaces.
