Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar became the focal point for National Unity Day celebrations as Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the magnificent Statue of Unity. The occasion, marking Patel’s birth anniversary, underscores his historic achievement in consolidating India and fostering its unique ‘unity in diversity’ ethos.
Prime Minister Modi was a distinguished participant in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade, an event designed to showcase India’s collective strength and cultural harmony. A key part of the ceremony involved the Prime Minister administering a pledge to uphold the nation’s unity and integrity. His solemn declaration, “I take this oath to protect the unity and integrity of our country and dedicate myself to this cause,” resonated with a commitment to national integrity and security.
The day began with PM Modi offering his respects through prayers and floral tributes at the Statue of Unity, followed by his presence at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Parade. The parade was a powerful demonstration of national security forces, including the BSF, CRPF, and state police, marching in unison.
Reflecting on the occasion via X, Prime Minister Modi posted, “India pays homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. He was the driving force behind India’s integration, shaping the nation’s destiny in its formative years. His dedication to unity, good governance, and public service continues to inspire generations.”
In a video message, the Prime Minister elaborated on Patel’s role as the architect of modern India. He noted Patel’s unparalleled skill in bringing disparate groups together: “He had an exceptional ability to bring people together despite ideological differences. Sardar Patel merged the princely states, united the people with the freedom movement, and strengthened the spirit of unity in diversity,” PM Modi emphasized.
