Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tianjin, China, greeted by members of the Indian diaspora. His visit is centered around the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where he will engage with other world leaders. Key discussions are planned with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. This marks PM Modi’s first visit to China following the Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. The SCO summit aims to assess the organization’s achievements over 25 years and approve a ten-year development plan. China is hosting the summit, with President Xi Jinping presiding. The SCO includes India, which has been a member since 2017, and other nations such as Russia, China, and Pakistan. India previously chaired the SCO Council of Heads of Government in 2020 and the SCO Council of Heads of State from 2022 to 2023.
