Delhi’s air quality plunged to a critical level on Thursday, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 399, deep into the ‘very poor’ zone. This toxic smog continues to blanket the city, presenting a significant public health challenge. Areas like Moti Bagh and Punjabi Bagh recorded alarming AQI readings of 439, classifying them as ‘severe’. Other parts of the capital, including Akshardham (420) and Dhaula Kuan (423), also experienced ‘severe’ air pollution. India Gate was not far behind, with an AQI of 400. The CPCB’s classification system indicates that levels between 401-500 are ‘severe’, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Residents are urged to take precautions as the smog persists.
