A case is now registered against suspended Kerala Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil after a woman filed a serious complaint of sexual assault and forced abortion. The Valiyamala Police Station acted on the detailed statement taken from the accuser late Thursday. Police are committed to a thorough investigation, examining all aspects of the claims. The complainant had reportedly approached Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan with her allegations of serious misconduct by the suspended Congress leader. Officials have promised to provide further details once preliminary investigation stages are complete. Within the Congress party, responses indicate adherence to due process. Deepa Dasmunsi, overseeing Congress affairs in Kerala, acknowledged Mamkootathil’s suspension and stated, ‘law will take its course.’ She also remarked that the complainant might have better served her case by filing a police complaint initially. On a related note, senior leader K Muraleedharan addressed questions about Mamkootathil’s campaign activities. He confirmed that the MLA is permitted to canvass for party candidates in the ongoing local body polls. However, Muraleedharan stressed that Mamkootathil’s suspension prohibits him from participating in official party events or appearing alongside other Congress leaders.
