The Union Health Ministry has announced a major revision of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates, scheduled to take effect on October 13, 2025. The new rates apply to roughly 2000 medical procedures and incorporate a new tier-wise system, reflecting ward entitlements, facility accreditation, type of hospital, and city classification. This marks the first major rate revision since 2014. The CGHS is designed to provide subsidized healthcare, covering a range of services such as consultations, surgeries, and hospital stays. The CGHS package is inclusive, covering a broad spectrum of services from admission to discharge, including accommodation, nursing care, medication, surgical expenses, and other essential medical needs.
