Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk is facing allegations of financial misconduct. The government is investigating irregularities in his foreign funding, focusing on his NGO and private institutions. Wangchuk is accused of using foreign funds inappropriately and violating laws, allegedly exploiting a mass movement for personal gain. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to investigate SECMOL, Wangchuk’s NGO, under the FEMA Act. SECMOL is accused of failing to properly report foreign donations, not complying with the FCRA Act, and failing to return foreign funds. The Home Ministry has also cancelled Wangchuk’s FCRA registration, indicating a stricter stance on the matter.
