A tragic incident has unfolded in Bengaluru, where a 22-year-old architecture student from a private engineering college took his own life at his residence on July 11. The event took place in the Nandaramayyan Palya area, under the Madanayakanahalli police station jurisdiction. Investigations point towards the possibility that the student, identified as Arun, was a victim of ragging and mental harassment at the college.
Arun, a final-year student, had secured a scholarship based on his academic record. He came from Hassan district and his parents were employed as daily wage laborers. Arun was also a talented artist, known for his portrait paintings.
At the time of his death, Arun was alone. Before taking his life, he recorded a video in which he expressed his emotional struggles and accused some classmates of spreading negative comments about him, which caused him significant distress. The video also contained allegations of ragging perpetrated by certain individuals.
Reports indicate that the video was shared on a college WhatsApp group. The college administration notified Arun’s family after viewing the video, but by the time they arrived home, the suicide had already occurred.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are awaiting a formal complaint from the family to initiate further investigation.
