The Supreme Court has formed a three-judge bench to hear the stray dog case. The hearing took place on Thursday, August 14, and is a response to the strong reaction to an earlier directive concerning the removal of stray animals in Delhi-NCR. The case is being reviewed by Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria.
Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai addressed the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, on Wednesday. A petition for the regular sterilization and vaccination of the animals was mentioned before the bench. CJI Gavai responded, “I will look into it,” indicating his intention to examine the issues. The specific context of his remarks, whether pertaining to the 2024 petition or the more recent Supreme Court decision that drew criticism from animal welfare activists and NGOs, remains unclear.
