A one-hour meeting took place between Gautam Adani of the Adani Group and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with several key projects on the agenda. The primary focus of the discussion was the Tajpur port project. The Bengal government’s recent announcement to issue a new tender for the port has intensified interest in the meeting’s outcomes.
The meeting sparked interest, particularly in light of the Tajpur port project, valued at Rs 25,000 crore. The West Bengal government recently ended a four-year partnership with the Adani Group concerning this project, leading to the new tender announcement.
Recognized as a strategic infrastructure project for eastern India, both the Bengal government and the Adani Group are keenly interested in the Tajpur port. However, neither party has released details about the discussions during the meeting.
The meeting extended for approximately an hour, with no clear information provided by the Bengal government regarding the Tajpur port’s status. The state government has not yet confirmed whether the tender awarded to the Adani Group has been canceled. This lack of clarity has spurred speculation about the meeting’s objectives. The discussions between CM Mamata and Gautam Adani extended for about an hour.
This recent meeting is not the first time Gautam Adani and CM Mamata Banerjee have come together. Their previous meeting occurred in 2021, and Adani was present at the ‘Bengal Global Business Summit’ in 2022.
