In response to BJP criticism, TMC MP Mahua Moitra has defended her comments regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming that her words were misinterpreted. She stated that the remarks were intended as an idiomatic expression and accused the BJP of not understanding idioms. An FIR has been filed against Moitra at a Raipur police station. The FIR references sections related to promoting enmity and imputations prejudicial to national integration. The controversy stems from Moitra’s alleged statement in Bengali suggesting Shah’s “head should be cut off” concerning illegal immigration. She explained the Bengali idiom, highlighting its meaning of accountability and responsibility, drawing parallels to similar idiomatic expressions in English. Moitra argued that the interpretation of her words was meant to be metaphorical, not literal.
