Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has indicated a substantial decline in the influence of terrorism and its associated networks within the Kashmir Valley. During a conversation with the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Srinagar, he stated that the fear of terrorist activities has significantly reduced. The Lieutenant Governor pointed out that only one local youth had been confirmed to have joined a terrorist group this year. He also highlighted the positive changes in the region, including a rise in investments in districts like Anantnag and Pulwama. In Pulwama, in particular, there’s a noticeable increase in the establishment of industrial units, even surpassing that of Srinagar. Sinha mentioned the enthusiastic participation of young people in rallies held in Pulwama during the Tiranga campaign, showing solidarity against terrorists. He noted that even in areas that were previously inaccessible, youth are now taking part in activities. He added that the famous Lal Chowk, which was deserted after sunset, is now lively during late evenings. Sinha also mentioned the significant decrease in strikes and stone pelting incidents, which were once common. The shift in mindset of Kashmiris is evident from the strong condemnation of the recent attack in Pahalgam.
