Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its power infrastructure. The state’s commitment to an uninterrupted power supply is bearing fruit, as evidenced by a significant decrease in transformer damage, as reported by the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). The months of April and May 2025–26 showcase a marked improvement, reflecting the success of strategic interventions and stringent accountability measures.
Specifically, the damage to power transformers has fallen dramatically. In April-May 2025–26, only 12 power transformers were damaged, compared to 42 in 2024–25, 61 in 2023–24, and 90 in 2022–23. This signifies an impressive decrease of over 87% in just three years. General transformer failures also decreased substantially, with 2,613 failures reported in April-May 2025–26 compared to 7,322 in the same period in 2022–23, a decline of over 64%.
Several key initiatives have contributed to this success. These include the installation of bell protection systems on power transformers and tailless and fuse units on distribution transformers. The implementation of mechanical fault tracking, continuous monitoring systems, and rigorous maintenance reviews have also played a vital role. The government’s zero-tolerance policy on power supply interruptions, coupled with disciplinary action against negligent officials, underscores the commitment to providing a dependable power supply across Uttar Pradesh.
