A historic address by US President Donald Trump to Israel’s Knesset was disrupted by a protest from two lawmakers on Monday. The MPs unfurled banners and called for Palestinian recognition, briefly halting Trump’s speech about the new Gaza peace initiative. Security personnel swiftly removed the protesters from the parliamentary chamber. Trump had been celebrating the deal, which he described as the start of ‘a new era of peace, hope, and trust.’ The agreement, aiming to secure the release of hostages taken during the October 7th Hamas attacks, has led to emotional reunions for families in Tel Aviv. Under the ceasefire terms, all remaining hostages are expected to be freed in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners. Meanwhile, Gaza has seen a flare-up of internal conflict following the halt in Israeli military operations. Fierce fighting erupted in Gaza City between Hamas security forces and the Dughmush tribe, resulting in significant loss of life and underscoring the deep divisions and ongoing instability within the enclave.
