The TV9 Network Travel and Tourism Summit featured Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who highlighted the importance of domestic tourism to India’s economy. He contrasted India’s domestic tourism base with those of international destinations like Dubai, Singapore, and Thailand. The summit saw participation from numerous prominent figures.
Shekhawat mentioned that India had over 2 crore tourists this year but that its large domestic market sets it apart. He mentioned that the number would have been above 300 crore if the recent Kumbh Mela figures were added. Shekhawat attributed the growth in the sector to the contributions of Indian tourists.
He highlighted the Kumbh Mela as a symbol of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Shekhawat recognized that the tourism sector’s revival after the pandemic was a collaborative effort. He envisions India evolving into a global cultural and spiritual leader through tourism, alongside its economic growth.
