Ukraine’s pursuit of peace has taken a significant step forward with its delegation commencing high-level discussions in the United States. The core agenda is to develop a strategy for a “dignified end” to the ongoing war initiated by Russia. Senior Ukrainian officials, including Rustem Umerov, are meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, with Presidential advisor Jaresh Kushner also participating in the Florida summit.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his belief that a “dignified end” to the conflict is attainable, citing the “constructive approach” of the American counterparts. He posted on X that the dialogue, rooted in “Geneva points,” would continue, and that the Ukrainian delegation is well-equipped to advance Ukraine’s specific objectives. Zelenskyy anticipates tangible progress in defining the steps needed to conclude the war.
The Ukrainian leader also highlighted Ukraine’s ongoing collaborative efforts with the US, aiming to refine the outcomes of earlier Geneva meetings through these new discussions. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to achieving a “dignified peace.”
These diplomatic efforts unfold against a backdrop of escalating conflict, with President Zelenskyy detailing recent large-scale Russian attacks. Earlier statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin had indicated a potential openness to the US peace plan, provided that Ukrainian troops vacate occupied territories.
