Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump in New York next month during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. The UNGA, a key international event, will host world leaders with the main meetings taking place from September 23 to 29. The anticipated Modi-Trump meeting is expected to center on addressing escalating trade tensions between India and the United States. Recent months have seen heightened trade and tariff disputes, prompting the Trump administration to impose tariffs on Indian goods. The meeting follows the breakdown of trade talks, with Trump criticizing India for its tariffs and its dealings with Russia. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that significant trade agreements, including those with India, are still under discussion.
