US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conveying President Donald Trump’s warm sentiments and considering PM Modi a “great friend.” The meeting in New Delhi served to highlight the robust India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister Modi expressed his pleasure in receiving Gor and voiced confidence that the Ambassador’s term will further enhance bilateral cooperation.
During their substantive exchange, Gor and PM Modi explored various avenues for deepening ties, including advancements in defense capabilities, expanding trade volumes, and fostering technological collaboration. The strategic significance of securing critical mineral resources was also a prominent subject. Gor’s visit has been characterized by productive engagements with key figures in India’s foreign policy establishment, including the External Affairs Minister, National Security Advisor, and Foreign Secretary.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Gor, addressing the current state of India-US relations and their international importance. These high-level meetings are taking place against the backdrop of recent trade tensions stemming from US tariff policies. However, renewed diplomatic efforts, including recent phone calls between President Trump and PM Modi, have rekindled hopes for progress in the ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations.
