Following the election, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X, emphasizing the opposition’s unity and 100% voter turnout. The implication is that the opposition was 15 votes short. Each political party is now trying to convince everyone that their camp did not have any cross-voters.
The NDA, which has 427 MPs, received an additional 25 votes. In the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha combined, there are 788 MPs. Out of these, 781 were supposed to vote, and 7 seats were vacant. Among the 781, 427 MPs are from the NDA, and 354 are from the opposition, with 315 from the INDIA alliance. The focus is on the 39 MPs who were not aligned with either the NDA or the INDIA alliance and how they voted.
Even without a whip in the Vice Presidential election, the opposition managed to get all its members to vote. Highlighting the importance, two Lok Sabha members from Trinamool Congress, Sudeep Bandopadhyay and Saugata Roy, despite being unwell, came to vote.
