The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple areas across India. The monsoon is expected to bring significant impacts to East, North, West, and Central India, potentially leading to travel disruptions and the possibility of flooding. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid non-essential travel. Uttarakhand and several northeastern states are currently under high alert. According to the IMD, widespread monsoon activity is expected over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and North Interior Karnataka. Telangana will be affected on the 21st and 22nd, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from the 24th to the 26th. In addition, the Met Department has cautioned against strong surface winds, with speeds ranging from 30-40 kmph, in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam for the next five days. The northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall until September 23. Disruptions are also expected in Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra over the next 4 to 5 days. Intense showers are also expected in isolated areas over southwest Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. People are urged to avoid unnecessary travel to Chhattisgarh between September 24th and 26th, and Odisha from September 23rd to 26th. Cyclonic circulation is likely to intensify the rainfall in these states.
