Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, stated on Saturday that he would share all updates related to the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death exclusively on Facebook Live. This decision was made to avoid any potential misunderstandings arising from how information is presented by various media houses. The Chief Minister explained that media outlets often edit press conferences to cater to their target audiences, leading to public confusion. He intends to communicate directly with the public through Facebook Live regarding the death of Garg and the ongoing investigation. The CM also noted that selective editing by media sometimes creates unnecessary stress among the public. The Chief Minister had previously announced the formation of a judicial commission to investigate Zubeen’s death via Facebook Live on Friday. Later, after arriving in Guwahati, the CM visited Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima, at her home in Kahilipara. Earlier in the day, Zubeen’s wife had returned the singer’s post-mortem report to the police, clarifying that it was not her personal document, and the investigators would determine if it should be made public. Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances on September 19 in Singapore while swimming. He was there to participate in the fourth Northeast India Festival organized by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the CID, consisting of nine members, is currently investigating the case. The CM mentioned that Assam Police cannot go to Singapore for the investigation and that they can’t connect the dots until the relevant people come forward.
