The Indian bowlers were put through their paces in the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi, enduring over 200 overs to secure 20 wickets on a challenging, low-bouncing pitch. Spinner Washington Sundar expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, describing the Delhi wicket as typical of the venue, offering minimal assistance to the bowlers. Despite these hurdles, the Indian attack remained resolute.
After India amassed 518/5 declared, the West Indies were bowled out for 248. India opted to enforce the follow-on, but the visitors fought back to set a target of 121. “It’s good to be bowling long spells, and it’s very heartening to have actually taken 20 wickets on a wicket like this,” Sundar stated. He highlighted the crucial element of patience and consistent accuracy required on such surfaces, noting, “You just need to be patient and try and hit those [good] areas more consistently.” The dedication of every bowler, including the fast bowlers who delivered with intensity, was a key factor in their success.
Sundar also reflected on the inherent challenges and rewards of Test cricket, particularly the need to adapt to varied playing conditions. “Different venues play quite differently, and that’s the beauty of this format,” he observed. “We play in a lot of different conditions, be it home or away, and obviously, all those conditions and the opposition challenge our skillsets.” India stands on the brink of a series victory, needing just 58 runs on the final day to complete the whitewash.
