Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of former Indian cricket star Virender Sehwag, has made his debut in the Delhi Premier League (DPL). This appearance marks his inaugural participation in any league. Aaryavir’s performance was marked by the explosive batting that was a hallmark of his father’s career. This debut seemed to be directly influenced by his father’s advice, which Aaryavir shared after the match.
Aaryavir Sehwag, aged 17, commenced his career in the DPL 2025, playing for Central Delhi Kings. He was given the opportunity to play against East Delhi Riders and, like his father, opened the batting. Fans of Virender Sehwag are well acquainted with his aggressive batting style from the start of his innings. Aaryavir displayed a similar approach.
Aaryavir started his innings cautiously, scoring one run in the first over. He then struck two consecutive boundaries off the bowling of Navdeep Saini, a fast bowler. Later, he hit two more boundaries against a spinner. The right-handed batsman made an impression in his debut match. Although he did not score a large number of runs, his 22 runs off 16 balls showed his explosive batting potential, mirroring his father’s style, and his ability to play aggressively against any bowler.
After his debut match, Aaryavir revealed the three key pieces of advice he received from his father, Virender Sehwag. Aaryavir said, “Not much was discussed with dad, he just told me to play freely, not to overthink, and to play my shots.”
It’s evident that Aaryavir successfully applied his father’s advice on the field. His performance in a short innings demonstrated his potential. Aaryavir was included in the team in place of Yash Dhull, who had been scoring consistently but had to leave the tournament to participate in the Duleep Trophy. Central Delhi Kings will now participate in Qualifier-1, and based on Aaryavir’s performance in his first match, he is expected to get another opportunity in the next game.
