AB de Villiers has disclosed details about the ‘toxic environment’ he experienced while playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. The South African cricket star, who was with the franchise from 2009 to 2010, described the team’s culture as detrimental. He played 28 matches for Delhi, scoring almost 700 runs, comprising one century and three half-centuries. He then played for RCB from 2011 until his retirement in 2021. During an interview with Cricket.com, de Villiers explained that the team was ‘in bad shape,’ with a lot of ‘poisonous characters.’ He mentioned sharing the dressing room with legends like Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vettori, underscoring how challenging those years were. He also reflected on his relationship with McGrath, recalling his initial fear of the player turning into a teammate and mentor. De Villiers implied he lacked necessary support during his tenure.
