Dewald Brevis, a South African rising star, has been making waves. He delivered a phenomenal performance in the three-match T20 series against Australia, winning over fans. Ravi Ashwin suggested that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) paid a premium to secure Brevis for the 2025 IPL season. CSK clarified that Brevis was signed at his base price. Ashwin has now responded to the franchise’s response.
On his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated, “I would rather focus on my cricketing performance than get caught up in social media. We make our videos on YouTube to share our thoughts. Those who watch, understand, and that’s great. However, those who don’t often twist our statements. Modern news often hinges on a single headline.”
He continued, “The way Brevis is batting, CSK has made a great discovery. Bringing him in was a brilliant decision. He is a dangerous batsman, smashing big sixes. Brevis could be highly effective against spin bowlers.”
In the IPL 2025 season, CSK added the young player, replacing Gurjapneet Singh due to injury. Brevis was initially unsold at the mega auction. CSK signed him mid-season. He delivered with 225 runs in 6 matches, a strike rate of 180, and an average of 37.50, including two half-centuries. His top score was 57.
In a recent T20 series between Australia and South Africa, Brevis was the leading run-scorer. He accumulated 180 runs in three matches with an average of 90, including a century and a half-century. His best score in the series was 125.
