Afghanistan commenced their Asia Cup 2025 journey with a resounding victory against Hong Kong, winning by 94 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Sediqullah Atal anchored the innings, finishing with an unbeaten score. Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai added late-innings firepower, contributing significantly to the final total. Their partnership helped Afghanistan to accumulate 78 runs in the final five overs. Hong Kong’s fielding was marred by several dropped catches, totaling eight, which allowed Afghanistan to post 188/4. Afghanistan utilized a variety of bowlers in the second innings, with Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad leading the attack. Hong Kong’s batting was unable to match the required run rate, with Babar Hayat’s efforts being insufficient. Afghanistan’s performance was nearly flawless, providing a strong start to the tournament. In contrast, Hong Kong will need to work on several aspects of their game, including fielding and running between the wickets.
