Following the announcement of India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif has shared his strong views, focusing on the change in vice-captaincy. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, with Shubman Gill taking over the role of vice-captain, replacing Axar Patel. Kaif has expressed that the team management should provide Axar Patel with an explanation for this decision.
Axar Patel’s Vice-Captaincy Removal
Kaif, through his X account, stated his wish that Axar Patel was informed of his removal from the vice-captaincy before the press conference. He believes that since Axar has not committed any wrong, he is entitled to an explanation. The post was a direct response to the team selection.
Axar Patel’s record in T20Is includes 71 matches, 535 runs, and 71 wickets taken. The Asia Cup 2025, starting on September 10, has already sparked significant debate regarding the squad. Notable absences include Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer. The tournament will be played in the T20 format, serving as preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
