The Asia Cup 2025 has commenced. Afghanistan secured a victory against Hong Kong in the inaugural match. The subsequent match of the tournament is scheduled for September 10th, featuring Team India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Team India is diligently preparing on the field for this encounter. During practice, an unexpected incident occurred when Team India’s vice-captain, Shubman Gill, was clean bowled by an unknown bowler. In contrast, his teammate Abhishek Sharma showcased a remarkable display of power hitting, striking approximately 30 sixes, leaving the Indian team in awe.
Shubman Gill’s Dismissal
In preparation for the match against UAE, Indian team players engaged in extensive practice sessions at Dubai’s ICC Academy. During batting practice, Shubman Gill, the vice-captain of Team India, displayed promising shots, particularly with the new ball. Reports suggest he executed several impressive cover drives. However, a local bowler delivered a swift delivery that penetrated his defense, resulting in the ball striking his off stump. This unexpected dismissal left him visibly surprised.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma also engaged in intense batting practice. He batted for about an hour, hitting approximately 30 sixes. Many of these powerful shots cleared the boundaries of the academy. The team members expressed their delight at his performance. It’s anticipated that Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma will open the innings against UAE.
Opening Partnership: Gill and Sharma?
Reports suggest that Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are likely to form the opening partnership for Team India against UAE. Consequently, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson might be sidelined. As Team India is returning to T20I cricket after a considerable hiatus, they aim to secure a comprehensive victory in the opening match. Much is expected from Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.
During practice, wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma was seen practicing wicketkeeping. However, several senior players, including fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana, along with spinner Kuldeep Yadav, did not participate. Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was observed practicing with strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux.
