The Asia Cup 2025 has encountered an unusual setback. Omani fast bowler Imran Sultan, who bears a striking resemblance to former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, has been denied entry to the UAE. Sultan’s Pakistani origin has seemingly become a barrier to his participation in the tournament. The talented bowler, born in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan, was set to represent Oman. He has played two T20I matches for Oman, taking four wickets, and featured in one ODI. Sultan’s journey to cricket began when he fled his home, defying his family’s wishes for him to join the Pakistani army. He went to Karachi and participated in Under-19 team trials, showcasing his talent by taking 21 wickets in six matches. During the trials, he displayed a bowling speed of 143 kmph.
A viral video of his bowling caught the attention of an Omani cricket franchise. He performed well in league matches, which earned him a place in Oman’s Asia Cup squad. However, he will now be absent. Oman’s debut match in the Asia Cup is scheduled against Pakistan.
