Australia is set to unveil two new ODI debutants, Matt Renshaw and Mitchell Owen, for the first match against India in Perth on October 19th. For the 29-year-old Matt Renshaw, this occasion comes almost a decade after his international debut and follows 14 Test appearances, his inclusion driven by a purple patch of white-ball form. He showcased his prowess with 248 runs at an exceptional average of 82.66 in the recent series against Sri Lanka A. Mitchell Owen also receives his ODI call-up, a reward for his explosive batting, including a century off 48 balls earlier this year. The absence of Josh Inglis and Alex Carey means Josh Philippe will step in as wicketkeeper. Matt Short’s return from injury is another key development, with the all-rounder slated to bat at number three for the entire three-game series, a change from his usual opening position. This strategic move allows the established opening pair of Head and Marsh to continue. Short has been working back to fitness after dealing with rib and quad injuries. Captain Mitchell Marsh is confident in the squad’s dynamic and looks forward to the challenge in front of a sold-out Perth crowd.
