Cameron Green, the talented Australian all-rounder, is feeling more confident in his batting than at any other point in his career. Despite a stop-start journey in his 34 Test appearances due to injuries, Green believes he has made significant strides in his technique and approach at the crease.
“I feel like I’m a better batter than I was a few years ago,” Green stated, emphasizing his expanded skillset. He described how his game has evolved from relying on a few fundamental shots to possessing a more dynamic and adaptable approach. This includes the confidence to use his feet and play shots that suit the prevailing match conditions. “Where now you got to walk down the wicket, you’ve got a bit more confidence to back away, play certain shots that you find that are appropriate for that situation.”
A key aspect of Green’s development is learning from the wealth of experience within the Australian dressing room. He has benefited immensely from observing and interacting with batting heavyweights such as Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja. “I’m watching them, how they go about it in certain situations, and then trying to build that into my game,” he shared, highlighting the practical application of these insights.
Green also reflected on a challenging dismissal in the recent first Test, viewing it as a valuable lesson. He explained the tactical considerations and risks involved when facing a challenging bowling attack. “It looks quite bad when you get out. You walk off a little bit embarrassed. But I think they’re really great learnings for future games,” he admitted. He acknowledged the effectiveness of the opposition’s plan.
As Australia aims to secure the Ashes in Adelaide with a 2-0 series lead, Green stressed the importance of staying grounded and focused, drawing parallels to England’s past comebacks. “That’s a good reminder for our team to stay really level,” he said. The team is determined to avoid complacency and close out the series. The third Test commences on December 17th.
