Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is confident his batting has reached a new level of sophistication, even as injuries have peppered his relatively short but impactful international career. As the Ashes series intensifies, Green feels his game is in excellent shape heading into the third Test in Adelaide.
“I consider myself a more complete batter now compared to a few years ago, and I’m always aiming for further improvement,” Green stated. He highlighted a significant expansion in his tactical approach and a bolstered confidence in his ability to adapt. “My game has evolved from having a few basic shots to now possessing a wider array of options, including the confidence to step down the wicket and play creatively based on the game’s demands.”
Green credits his accelerated growth to the mentorship and presence of Australia’s senior batsmen. The daily exposure to players like Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne has provided him with invaluable practical knowledge. “Learning from the seasoned professionals around me, observing their strategies and execution, has been a key factor in refining my own technique and decision-making.”
Addressing a past dismissal that drew attention, Green acknowledged the need for consistent application of sound judgment. “Getting dismissed in such a way can be humbling, but it serves as a significant learning opportunity for upcoming matches,” he noted. He described the specific delivery that proved challenging, a yorker that exploited his defensive positioning after he had been facing aggressive short-pitched bowling.
He stressed the collaborative approach to game strategy. “The decisions made during an innings are always about what’s best for the team’s objectives,” Green commented. Australia holds a strong 2-0 lead in the Ashes and is eager to clinch the series in Adelaide. Green, however, remains grounded, drawing parallels to England’s resilience in the 2023 series where they staged a comeback. “We must remain focused and avoid looking too far ahead; our immediate goal is to finish the series strongly.”
