Coco Gauff has etched her name in tennis history by winning her first French Open women’s singles title. The American player, at 21 years old, staged an extraordinary comeback to defeat World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a closely contested final on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Gauff sealed the victory with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-2, and 6-4.
This win is a defining moment in Gauff’s career. In 2022, she reached the French Open final but was defeated by Iga Swiatek. Gauff’s performance this year demonstrated her resolve as she secured the championship. The victory represents Gauff’s second Grand Slam title, after her 2023 US Open win, which also saw her triumph over Sabalenka.
This French Open win provided Gauff with the chance to get back at Sabalenka after losing to her in the Madrid Open final. The win gives Gauff a 6-5 lead in their direct matches. Moreover, it marks Gauff’s first clay court title of the season, after runner-up finishes in both the Rome and Madrid Opens. The French Open victory is a testament to Gauff’s growth as a tennis player.
