In the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, Rinku Singh’s Meerut Mavericks have experienced a rollercoaster of results. Despite a promising start, the team has been unable to sustain consistent winning performances. While victory and defeat are usually decided by on-field play, an unexpected turn of events led to an unfair loss for the team. Both Rinku and his team were left to grapple with the unexpected outcome. The issue wasn’t the fault of another team or the umpires, but the weather, which changed abruptly in the middle of the match, resulting in a loss for Rinku Singh’s Meerut side.
Samer Rizvi’s Strong Batting Display
The 16th match of the UP T20 League, held at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on August 25, saw the Meerut Mavericks compete against the Kanpur Superstars. In the match, Kanpur batted first and scored 149 runs in their 20 overs. Samer Rizvi, the captain of Kanpur, was the top scorer, accumulating 78 runs off just 48 balls. Rizvi remained at the crease until the end and helped his team achieve a respectable score, hitting 7 fours and 5 sixes. No other batsman was able to contribute a significant score.
Rain’s Impact on Meerut’s Chances
After keeping Kanpur to that score, Rinku and his team probably felt optimistic, as they had a good chance of winning. But, their start was poor, and they lost 2 wickets for just 12 runs. This early setback caused problems for them. Meerut took 4 overs to score those 12 runs. After the slow start, Swastik Chikara gave some momentum to the scoreboard and took the team to 41 runs in 8 overs.
But the weather decided to play spoilsport. While Kanpur enjoyed good weather conditions throughout their innings, rain started during Meerut’s innings and never stopped. As a result, the match was canceled, and Meerut lost by 14 runs through the Duckworth-Lewis method. This was their third loss in 6 matches this season, although the team is still second in the points table.
