Temba Bavuma, the captain of the South African cricket team, is back in action, leading his team in the upcoming series. Having taken a break after leading South Africa to their first World Test Championship title in June, Bavuma is now ready to face Australia once more. However, before the series even commences, Bavuma’s name is trending due to a photograph that has sparked comparisons to Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan.
The ODI series between Australia and South Africa, consisting of 3 matches, will begin on August 19, Tuesday. The series will commence in Cairns, where the final T20 match between the two teams was previously held. The trophy was unveiled a day before the series, with Australian captain Mitchell Marsh and South African captain Temba Bavuma present. During the unveiling, a special photoshoot took place, and one image has gained significant attention.
In the photo, taken with the backdrop of the ocean, Bavuma is seen in his green South African jersey, with the trophy placed in front. He has his arms outstretched, and this pose has become popular on social media. Mitchell Marsh is also in the photo, mirroring Bavuma’s pose. This stance has led cricket fans to draw comparisons to Shah Rukh Khan’s signature pose, with fans noting the resemblance.
Bavuma and Marsh are likely focused on the series win, unaware of the comparisons. The ODI series will be played after nearly two years since the last encounter between the two teams. Their previous meeting was during the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final, where Australia won and secured a place in the final, eventually winning the title. Before this series, Australia also won the T20 series. Consequently, Bavuma will be trying to lead his team to an ODI series victory.
